Metal additive manufacturing services with qualification thinking from the first review

Velo3d is built for teams that cannot treat 3D printing as a visual prototype exercise. Aerospace brackets, propulsion manifolds, heat exchangers, and launch hardware need build strategy, powder traceability, inspection planning, and post-processing controls that survive internal quality review. Our service path starts with a DfAM and risk conversation, then moves into quoting, parameter selection, build orientation, coupons, inspection gates, and release documentation. That makes every request easier for engineering, sourcing, and quality groups to approve together.

DfAM and geometry review

We examine enclosed passages, overhangs, wall thickness, thermal mass, datum strategy, and post-machining access. The goal is not to force a part into additive manufacturing; it is to decide whether the geometry can be made reliably and what evidence the buyer will need.

Build and material planning

Alloy selection, powder lot handling, coupon layout, machine assignment, and support removal plans are defined before the build is released. For critical parts, the traveler can include hold points for engineering signoff and added inspection.

Inspection and release package

Dimensional reports, FAI forms, surface roughness checks, heat treatment records, material certificates, and nonconformance notes are assembled into a program-specific package so downstream teams do not chase missing evidence.

Service delivery is coordinated around decision records rather than informal messages. When a buyer asks for titanium, nickel alloy, or stainless hardware, the quote notes the assumptions behind powder selection, build envelope, heat treatment, support removal, datum cleanup, and inspection access. If a drawing calls for a feature that cannot be measured after printing, the team flags that risk before the file is released. If a surface requires machining or polishing, the route includes stock allowance and sequence notes. These details give purchasing a real commercial basis and give engineering a defensible technical path.
